M71.30 – Other bursal cyst, unspecified site

A myxoid cyst (also known as a digital mucous cyst, pseudocyst, or synovial cyst) is a ganglion of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint. The cysts are believed to form from mucoid degeneration of connective tissue and are associated with osteoarthritic joints. They are more prevalent in women and the elderly and occur more frequently on the fingers than on the toes.

Myxoid cysts are benign, but patients may seek treatment if they become unsightly, cumbersome, or painful. A number of treatment options are available.
